Tablets Approved for Class 1 Zone 0 Hazardous Locations in the United States Atlanta, Ga. (Feb. 19, 2016) – Aegex Technologies LLC’s globally certified, intrinsically safe enterprise tablet has gained an additional certification for use in the most explosive hazardous locations in the United States. The Windows 10 tablets are now approved for industrial areas classified as Class I Zone 0, where ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors or liquids are present continuously or for long periods of time under normal operating conditions. The Aegex devices are the world’s first enterprise tablets to run the Windows 10 operating system and be certified for use in Class 1 Division 1 explosive areas of hazardous locations in the United States and Canada. The device is also certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 areas internationally throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Industries such as oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, public safety, utilities and others that operate highly explosive environments do not permit most mobile computing devices in their hazardous locations because the equipment could cause an explosion. Aegex’s 10.1-inch tablets are certified intrinsically safe, or incapable of igniting a spark sufficient for explosion. With each additional certification, the Aegex tablets become approved for more types of hazardous locations around the world. Aegex10 Intrinsically Safe tablets allow users to record, transmit and analyze real-time data from within the most hazardous zones of their operations. With cloud connectivity and Windows 10 enterprise applications, personnel in hazardous locations can communicate instantaneously with the rest of their organizations, increasing efficiency and productivity. Aegex tablets are built on a uniform platform and Intel architecture and are customizable for diverse workforce needs. Electronic equipment used in hazardous industrial locations in the U.S. must be certified by a nationally recognized certification agency. The ATEX Directive governs devices sold into the European Union. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) publishes international standards for all electronic technologies in other global regions. Many individual countries have their own certification standards in addition to regionally accepted ones.
