Aegex Intrinsically Safe Windows-based tablets have gained official certification for use in ATEX and IECEX Zone 1 hazardous locations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and other regions! The tablets are also undergoing the approval process for C1D1 in the United States and Canada. Mobile devices that are certified intrinsically safe (IS) by ATEX and IECEx, the European and international certifying bodies for equipment used in hazardous locations, are incapable of igniting a spark. Intrinsically safe Windows tablets that are certified to enter the most explosive zones of hazardous locations can transform an industrial site into a “smart,” efficient, and more productive operation, recording and transmitting data in real time, directly from the source. These types of IS devices can form an integral part of an industrial Internet of Things, permitting cloud computing in hazardous spaces previously out of reach for mobile devices because of risk of spark. An intrinsically safe Windows-based tablet, then, is the starting point for a larger movement toward a complete IoT for hazardous industries.
